What this paper is about
Chemical and biological operations are equally important to the large-scale manufacturing of the COVID vaccine as well as the age-old process of cheese making. In fact, Chemical and biological operations form the core unit operations in many food dairy and biotechnology-based production processes. The aspects covered in this course are shown in the figure below:
Paper Description
This paper will take a chemical engineer's approach to understand Chemical and biological operations and cover the following fundamental areas.
- Industrial Fermentation Technology
- Separation and Thermal Technologies
- Process Design for Chemical and Biological Operations
How this paper will be taught

International Students

How you will be assessed
Samples of your work may be required as part of the Engineering New Zealand accreditation process for BE(Hons) degrees. Any samples taken will have the student name and ID redacted. If you do not want samples of your work collected then please email the engineering administrator, Natalie Shaw (natalie.shaw@waikato.ac.nz), to opt out.
The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 70:30. The final exam makes up 30% of the overall mark.
